3 towns, 1 team: Plymouth Shawnee Indians and Ed-Lark Hurricanes merge to become the Wyoming Valley Junior Spartans

In an exciting development for local youth sports, the Plymouth Shawnee Indians and Ed-Lark Hurricanes have announced a merger to create a united and robust football organization. This historic partnership, effective immediately, aims to bring together the best aspects of both teams, ensuring a brighter future for young athletes in the region.

A Shared Vision for Success

For years, the Plymouth Shawnee Indians and Ed-Lark Hurricanes have been staples in the youth football community, known for their dedication to sportsmanship, skill development, and fostering community spirit. By combining resources, coaching expertise, and player talent, the newly merged team will create enhanced opportunities for growth both on and off the field.

A merger like this is, of course, not a first for our area – the Ed-Lark Hurricanes continued the legacy of the Larksville and Edwardsville teams after they combined many years ago. Likewise, the Wyoming Valley West Spartans high school team formed following the state-mandated merger of area high schools in the early 1960s.

What This Means for Players and Families

The merger brings exciting changes for players and families, including:

  • Expanded Coaching Expertise: Access to a larger, highly skilled coaching staff dedicated to player development.
  • Enhanced Competition: Opportunities for players to compete in a wider range of games and tournaments.
  • Improved Resources: Shared equipment, facilities, and administrative support for a seamless experience.
  • Community Unity: A chance to build stronger bonds across the region and unite under a shared mission.

Current players and families from both organizations can expect a smooth transition, with more details on team rosters, practice schedules, and events to be shared in the coming weeks. Leadership from both the Ed-Lark Hurricanes and Plymouth Shawnee Indians will work closely to ensure every player feels welcome and valued in the new organization.

A New Name, A New Chapter

As part of the merger, branding, and merchandise, and a new logo will be unveiled soon. The leadership team invites community members to participate in this exciting rebranding process by attending our regular meetings and submitting suggestions here on our site.

Looking Ahead

This merger signals the start of a promising new era for youth football in the area. Both organizations are committed to preserving their shared legacy while embracing innovation and collaboration for the future.

By joining forces, we’re not just creating a team — we’re creating a family. We can’t wait to see what we’ll achieve together.
